The Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) works to ensure that all Seattle children have the greatest opportunity to succeed in school and in life. The department is charged with improving the lives of Seattle families by helping children enter kindergarten ready to succeed, providing support so students achieve academically and the opportunity gap is eliminated, and making sure students graduate from high school prepared for college or career. DEEL coordinates programs and resources on behalf of students through collaboration with community-based organizations, child care providers, Seattle Public Schools (SPS), and local colleges and universities.
In 2017, the City Council adopted the Seattle Education Action Plan by Resolution 31748. The Plan followed an extensive community engagement strategy, an Education Summit in 2016, and the recommendations of an Education Advisory Group. The Plan establishes a goal of having 70 percent of all student groups achieve success in college or a career credential program. To achieve this goal, DEEL and SPS must make major changes to the ways in which we support African American/Black students and other students of color. DEEL is an outcomes-driven organization, and achieving these goals requires transparent and rigorous use of data to plan interventions and monitor progress.
We are looking for an Administrative Staff Assistant who will support these high-profile initiatives. Reporting to the Deputy Director of DEEL, you will provide support to the Education Action Plan Project Manager, the Mayor's Policy Advisor on Black Male Achievement, and the Data and Evaluation unit. DEEL strives to embed the City's Race and Social Justice Initiative into its education objectives and seeks staff that value the importance of working together as a community and government to eliminate racial disparities and achieve racial equity.
